NSPS Emission Standards for Digester Gas SI-ICE, U.S. EPA (73 FR 3568)

Emisson Standards (EPA) - Biogas Engines

The final emission standard rules for spark ignition (SI) internal combustion (biogas) engines (ICE), including those used to combust digester bio-gas (73 FR 3568) were published by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on Januray 18th, 2008, becoming effective on March 18, 2008.

The final rule defines new source performance standards (NSPS) for SI-ICE and national emission standards for hazardous air pollutants for SI-ICE.

The rules set the emission limits for nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOC).

The NSPS requirements for new SI-ICE burning digester gas are divided into two parts: 1) All digester gas engines (except lean burn engines greater than or equal to 500 hp but less than 1,350 hp); and 2) Lean burn engines greater than or equal to 500 hp but less than 1,350 hp.
