Screw press separators - slurry separation
Screw press separators are a state of the art technology for the separation of slurry and digester solids. Dewatered digester solids and resulting particle free liquids form an agricultural product that can be handled far easier and utilized for multiple purposes - bedding, flush water ....
After slurry is pumped into the separator, the first stage of separation is achieved soly by gravity, as the screw forces the manure slurry through a tube and past a cylindrical wedge wire screen. The screen slot size ranges between 0.1 mm and 1.0 mm (0.04 inch)
Solids retained on the screen are conveyed by a screw auger towards the mouthpiece of the separator. Manure soldis building up in the mouthpice of the separator work as a squeezer, causing further liquid to be released. Pressed and dry manure solids with a dry matter content of 20 to 25% are discharged.
With screw press separators up to 80% of the total solids can be captured. Total energy consumption ranges around 0.4 kWh/m3 or 0.0015kWh/gal of incoming substrate.
