Long shaft mixer
Long shaft mixers are slow rotating agitators. Installed at an angle, motor and gearbox are located on the outer side of the digester.
Gastight wall bushings that take the shaft of the mixer have to be implemented in the upper wall section of the digester. The lower end of the shaft can be fixed to the digester floor or stays pivoting freely within the substrate.
To improve the nutrient availability rotor blades can be equipped with cutters and multiple propellers can be fitted to one shaft.
Long shaft mixers can be operated at a dry matter content up to 18%.
A typical 8ft propeller mixer with an installed power of 11kW rotates at 40 rpm. However, the layout is dependent on digester size and volume.
